| Radiohead - In Rainbows The long-awaited 7th album from the Oxford experimental rock band is finally out after a very long wait, originally released back in October being the first ever pay-what-you-like download (for which the amount of people who paid nothing is yet to be revealed by the band) and released on CD here in the UK in December.
In Rainbows features 10 new studio tracks, all born from their numerous live performances and writing sessions, and arguably features some of Radioheads most anthemic titles yet.
Several rumors surrounding the "01 and 10" album have been circulating since the release of In Rainbows, in that if you combine the albums tracks alternately with the "OK computer" album(10 years apart, 10 tracks on this album hence the 01 and 10 reference), you get a seemlessly flowing album. I have tried it (i know.. its sad) and It really works. Weather this rumor is true is still to be confirmed by the Band themselves.
Taking the genre-breaking approach to music production the band usually take, In Rainbows takes some unusual turns, taking on some truly difficult time signatures and really laying those sounds in a remarkably euphoric way. "Weird Fishes" is a great example of this, delving from the uplifting into the dark with a pacy overhead and riff collaboration. Personal favorites are the film-score perfect "all I need", and the remarkably emotive "Nude", all in all In Rainbows is an excellent achievement and proves there is plenty more truly great songs to come from this truly great band.
If your a fan of good alternative rock, or have a couple of Radioheads albums knocking about your collection, this one is certainly worth adding, in fact I would go as far as saying you must have this album if you really liked OK computer. Time will tell if this turns into a quintessential Radiohead album, I am willing to bet my right arm it does.
