Out in the Rain

Remember when we used to play out in the rain?
And our biggest fear was gettin caught
comin home late?
Mom's would yell at ya
if ya had a cold plate
We was carefree
Livin in our own mind state
Never did we ever think of things like rape,
racism, hate, contemplate religion or fate,
homicide, genocide, drive-by's, or red tape --
The corruption in the government
or health care rates
Oblivious and ignorant to life's real problems
Cuz we prob'ly thought somebody
would eventually solve em
Thinkin they won't bother us
If we don't bother em
"Eat the food on your plate --
There's people starvin"
We only really did it cuz our mom was hollerin
As far as we thought
Africans ate lobster, and
All the other luxuries Americans had
We never would imagine things could be so bad
